Two weeks ago two of my novels were finalists in the sixth annual Californian
National Indie Excellence Awards (NIEA): “The Sudan Curse” in the Faction
category (fiction based on fact) and “Kashmir on a Knife-Edge” in the Regional
Fiction category. Now for something completely different!
On June 11 Strategic Book Publishing released my latest publication,
“The Komodo Verses: Dragon Poems.” The Komodo dragon is the world’s largest and
heaviest lizard and one of the most fascinating and unique creatures in the
animal kingdom. They are native to the island of Komodo, one of the 17,508 islands that make
up the Republic of Indonesia.
“The Komodo Verses” is a collection of 18 poems dedicated to the
Komodo dragon, in which readers can gain insight into their appearance, habitat,
habits, and lifestyle. Writer Vern Westgate wrote, “you write very good poetry,
start well, use the language to good effect, set scenes and events vividly, and
tell a fine tale.”
Each page contains a poem and a photograph of the Komodo dragon. The
18 poems include: “The Komodo dragon has another name” - “How big does a Komodo
grow?” – “Weigh, weigh, the Komodo way” – “Walk like a cowboy” – “When I find a
girlfriend” – and “Baby eggs.”
WRESTLING FOR A FIGHT
The Komodo dragon eats in order
Big
ones first and then the smaller
But
what if they are the same size?
Then
they are fierce fighting guys
When
deciding who dines first, they wrestle
If they
are hungry, they first tussle
So take
your turn, or they’ll get sharky
That’s
called order or hierarchy
