The Nairobi Gallery in
Kenya is a museum and art gallery located in an historic building, built in
1913.
Currently the art
gallery – a small room – was displaying the artworks of Ugandan artist Therese
Musoke (1942-) from 8 July to 1 October 2017.
The museum holds
permanent exhibitions of textiles and weavings, beaded heritage pictures,
wooden carvings and furniture, antique books, calabashes and containers,
figures and dolls, shields and spears, headrests and stools, wooden spools and
kitchen utensils and the recreation of Joseph Murumbi’s home in Muthaiga.
Murumbi is the collector of the pieces on display throughout the museum.
The museum is also
Point Zero – the exact location in which all distances in the countries are
measured. For example, the distance to a Kenyan city or a city in other parts
of the world is measured from this point. The tented café next to the building
is called Pointzero Coffee.
