Phare, The Cambodian Circus, in Siem Reap, Cambodia, has a performance show called White Gold. It is a blend of circus, dance, theatre, painting, music, and acrobatics. It also tells stories from Cambodian folklore.
The Phare artists are graduates of Phare Ponleu Selpak (PPSA), an NGO school and professional arts training centre in Battambang, near Siem Reap.
PPSA was founded in 1994 by nine Cambodian men. Currently, more than 1,200 students attend the free public school and 500 attend free vocational arts training programs.
The Cambodian Circus opened in 2013 and is based in Siem Reap. It performs all year – 365 days – in a tented arena.
