The Wallace Collection is the collected works of Sir Richard Wallace of the Marquesses of Hertford in England in his home, the Hertford House. Lady Wallace bequeathed the entire collection of about 5,500 pieces to the British Nation in 1897. Hertford House was opened to the public as a museum, with free admission, in 1900.
The pieces include paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, timepieces, arms and armoury, porcelain, and furniture. The collection includes 18thcentury French art, 17thcentury and 19thcentury paintings, medieval and Renaissance works of art and an extensive collection of armour and weaponry.
