The Rex Cinema in Paris was made an historical monument in 1981 for its art-deco facade.
The Rex Cinema was constructed in 1930 by Jacques Haik, and opened in December 1932. Architect Auguste Bluysen and engineer John Eberson designed the building. The facade was designed by sculptor Henri-Edouard Navarre and the large hall is the work of decorator Mauric Dufrene.
It is modelled on the New York Radio City Music Hall. It is one of the largest cinemas in Paris. It can accommodate up to 2,800 spectators in the grand hall.
Alfred Hitchcock launched his film The Birds in the cinema in 1963.
