From 21 September to 11 October 2019, the Zurab Tsereteli Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in Tbilisi, Georgia, is presenting the exhibition ‘Across the Mountains: The South Caucasus Photography, Volume 1.’
The project initiated by the Tbilisi Photography & Multimedia Museum for the Tbilisi Photo Festival 2019 is a unique initiative that brings together, in one exhibition space, artists working across the South Caucasus region—Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
The exhibition includes more than 20 projects by photographers, who work in various genres from documentary and photojournalism to contemporary art projects. Multimedia, video and film projects are also part of the exhibition.
The exhibition is produced under the project South Caucasus Photography Hub for Education and Innovation funded by the Swiss Cooperation Agency in South Caucasus. It aims to facilitate a dialogue between authors working in the Caucasus region who cover the tough topics that society rarely wants to bring into the open.
The main topics include modern society and changing traditional values; gender with a focus on women rights and masculinity; modern conflicts and immigration; and minorities, denied and marginalised by society.
Special guests of the project will be the cross-border storytelling platform Chai Khana and a film program by Salaam Cinema Baku.
The exhibition, curated by Anna Shpakova, opens on 21 September and close on 11 October to coincide with the Tbilisi Photo Festival 2019.
