Reims is 129 kilometres (80 miles) northeast of Paris, taking 45 minutes by train.
It was a major city in the Roman Empire. It was also known as the Coronation City because it was the site of the coronation of the kings of France. Joan of Arc was present at the coronation of Charles VII in July 1429.
With Reims on the Vesle river on the northern edge of the Champagne wine region, it is noted for its champagne production.
