In the Sulamaniyah governorate of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, between Sulamaniyah and Erbil, is Lake Dokan. It is the largest artificial lake in Iraqi Kurdistan. Situated 900 metres above sea level, the lake attracts local tourists for swimming and boating. The lake is actually a reservoir on the Little Zab River that supplies the district with water for irrigation, electricity, and household use.
The beautiful area is noted for its archeological sites
on the Ranya Plain. Dokan District has five towns and each of the towns has a
number of villages.
