In the Eastern Province of
Sri Lanka is the coastal city of Batticaloa. One of its beaches is the Pasikudah
Beach, known for its sandy coastline, located about 35 kilometres northwest of
Batticaloa. It is also well known for its long shallow shelf, which means that
visitors can walk for kilometres into the ocean. The shelf is only a few
centimetres deep and the current is not strong.
Pasikudah, in Tamil, means
Green Algae Bay.
