The Georgian poet and
writer, Giorgi Leonidze, is commemorated with an imposing statue in one of
Tbilisi’s parks. Behind the National Gallery on Rustaveli Avenue, the statue
faces the river. Born in the Kakheti province, Giorgi Leonidze (1899-1966)
wrote Tree of Desire, which was made into a film in 1976.
