At the National Museum in Nairobi, Kenya, is a photo exhibition called
Nairobi Then + Now 1967-2017. The Architectural Association of Kenya presents
50 years of building design changes in the capital of Kenya.
The theme of the Nairobi Then + Now 1967-2017 photo exhibition is ‘Looking Back, Moving Forward.’
The Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) was formed on 31 May 1967 and
this year, 2017, marks their Golden Anniversary. To celebrate their 50th
anniversary, the exhibition highlights the impact of the changes in the built
and natural environment. In reflecting on the past they hope to ‘imagine a
greater future moving forward.’
The exhibition juxtaposes old and new photographs of the city of Nairobi.
While the photographers are unknown, the AAK is thankful for the historic images.
Additional assistance to showcase this exhibition is from Nostalgic East
Africa, History KE and K-researcher for digitising and sharing the images, as
well as current photographers Kubai Koigi, Siegmund Kamau, and Kenneth Kinoti.
George Aarabu developed the exhibition concept, and organisers included
Duo-Trix Media, Terracotta and APR&M in conjunction with the AAK.
