National
Geographic Georgia – 2013 in Photos: The
National Geographic Society, founded in 1888, is noted for its stunning
photography of the many expeditions and projects published in each monthly
magazine. In 2013, the National Geographic celebrated 125 years. Some of their
photos taken in 2013 by NG’s photographers were presented in the exhibition in
Tbilisi in dedication of its first year in Georgia.
The Dry Heart of Brazil – O Sertao by Dirk Gebhardt: The colour photographs presented in the exhibition show the region of Sertao over a two year period. Sertao – the word derived from O Desertao – is only 300 kilometres from the coast, but is largely affected by drought. It is an area of 1.5 million square kilometres (five times the square footage of Germany) with mountains and flat-topped formations called mesas. Its average temperature year round is 38C with nine months of drought and three months of the rainy season. The photographs depict everyday life in the drought.
