In
2002 the National Gallery of Australia, in Canberra, commissioned Neil Dawson’s
Diamonds, purchased with assistance from ActewAGL.
Diamonds
is a globe suspended in space – as an outside sculptural piece next to the
gallery of art.
The
globe is aluminium extrusion and mesh painted with synthetic polymer automotive
paints with stainless steel fittings and cables. It is 450 centimetres in
diameter (14 feet 9 inches).
Neil
Dawson (1948-) is a sculptor from New Zealand, and is known for his large-scale
pieces, usually crafted from aluminium and stainless steel.
MARTINA NICOLLS is an international
aid and development consultant, and the author of:- The Shortness of
Life: A Mongolian Lament (2015), Liberia’s Deadest Ends (2012), Bardot’s Comet
(2011), Kashmir on a Knife-Edge (2010) and The Sudan Curse (2009).
