The
National Gallery of Australia (NGA), Canberra’s national art gallery,
established in 1967 was extended and refurbished n 2007. But it is not only the
art inside the gallery that is interesting. The NGA has a Sculpture Garden set
among the natural trees in a strip of land at the foreshore of Lake Burley
Griffin.
Australian
sculpture Rick Amor’s (1948-) “The Dog” (2003) is a bronze cast on a corten
steel base.
French
sculpture Emile-Antoine Bourdelle’s (1861-1929) “Penelope” (1912) is a bronze
cast. It was purchased from the Susse Foundry in 1976 with French sculpture
Auguste Rodin’s (1840-1917) “Pierre de Wiessant from The Burghers of Calais
(1885).
Chinese-American
sculpture Marco Polo ‘Mark’ Di Suvero’s (1933-) “Ik Ook” (1971) is painted
steel. He is a large-scale abstract expressionist.
Australian
sculpture Clement Meadmore’s (1929-2005) “Virginia” (1970) is weathered steel.
Australian
sculpture Robert Klippel’s (1920-2001) “Number 751” (1989) is a bronze cast. In addition, there are several other sculptures.
