The Seismic Monitoring Centre of Georgia (SMC) registered an earthquake of
magnitude 4.7 at 14:14 local time (10:14 UTC) on Tuesday 12 July 2016. The
depth was registered at 2 kilometres.
It was located 76 kilometres southwest of the capital, Tbilisi, Georgia, in
an area of limited population (41.39N; 44.03E) 23 kilometres south of Tsalka
(population 1,570). Some residents of Tbilisi (population 1,049,498) confirmed
the quake. The location was 68 kilometres north of Gyumri in Armenia.
