Irish author James Joyce (1882-1941) lived in Paris for 20 years from the 1920s.
He moved apartments thirteen times. One of the apartments where he lived was in the 5th arrondissement at 73 rue Cardinal Lemoine – in the home of poet Valery Larbaud (1881-1957). Larbaud lived in the apartment from 1919 to 1937.
The plaque on the front of the building states, ‘James JOYCE (1882-1941) British writer of Irish descent, welcomed by Valery Larbaud, completed his novel ‘Ulysses’ here, a major work of 20th century literature.’
