The Australian Embassy in Paris is currently hosting an photography exhibition by Petrina Hicks from June to September 2021. The exhibition is called Gothique Blanc– Bleached Gothic. It is part of the Australia Now 2021 campaign.
Bleached Gothic is a retrospective collection of Petrina Hicks’ works from 2003 to 2019. The Sydney-based artist takes hyper-realistic large-scale photographs, mainly in portraiture. Hicks takes photographs of children, animals, and young women against a simple, pristine background in a distinctive style.
Her photographs stand out because of their dual aspect. Simple and plain with a sense of surrealism – and very eye-catching.
