Deauville in the Normandy region of northwest France is a seaside commune noted for its harbour, boardwalk, casinos, hotels, the Deauville Asian Film Festival (inaugurated in 1999), and the Deauville American Film Festival (inaugurated in 1975).
Along the coastline’s famous boardwalk – the Promenade des Planches – created in 1923, is a 1.5 kilometre (1 mile) long row of beach closets (change rooms) dedicated to film and movie celebrities who have visited Deauville.
