JIVKO is the latest art exhibition in the Town Hall of the 6th arrondissement in Paris from 24 October to 20 November 2023.
Jivko Stantchev (1963-) is a Bulgarian-born French sculptor. His uncle, the painter M. Manev, introduced Jivko to visual arts. In 1982, he graduated in Fine Arts and Art History before studying at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia. In 1990, the School of Fine Arts in Paris awarded him a scholarship, so he moved to France.
With a grant in 1992, he was invited to work for six months in the studio of the painter Auguste Renoir. Jivko Stantchev became a French citizen in 1996.
In the early 2020s, he established a bronze plant and animal artwork collection – panda, koala, rhinoceros, crocodile, elephant, and so on.
Of his current exhibition, the introduction reads, “Sculptures open to the winds of the world, alive, animated by the breath of ancient times or by the spirit of the beauties of nature – animals and plants … where movement varies between strength and lightness, where the mastery of his art bursts forth in the weight of bronze, intimately linked to the play of subtle vibrations of light and shadow.”
