At
the Queensland Museum in Brisbane, just outside the Museum Shop, is an
underpass pedestrian walkway. In this tunnel are giant life-like models of
whales suspended from the roof. As pedestrians walk underneath them, they emit
their whale sounds that echo in the tunnel.
The
whales in the Whale Walk, or Whale Mall, are humpback whales (Megaptera
novaeangliae). They migrate from their feeding area in Antarctica to the
tropical waters off Queensland, eastern Australia, to breed.
