Hello all, I am writing from France where my adventures in Wonderland continue.

From 1 August, the French government will impose the "pass sanitaire" - the health pass - which can be shown on paper or by smartphone via the French app TousAntiCovid. It's a QR code that has your double-jab vaccination status. It takes one minute to get the free app and upload the QR code from the document you are given when vaccinated. Some museums introduced the health pass regulations from 21 July. When I showed a security officer my health status, via smartphone, to enter the Zoo, I was also asked for proof of identity. What! No-one mentioned that! But, of course, I had proof of who I was - my annual Zoo pass! That was sufficient said the security officer (although I did have my passport). Two days ago, I showed my vax status, ID, proof of booking time, and annual pass. Today, I was only required to show my annual pass. But whatever August brings, I'm ready.
In the land of Liberté, égalité, fraternité - Liberty, equality, and fraternity - the national motto of France - the French march on in protest at the idea of the health pass. The French have no problem with Louis Pasteur (1822-1895), the French microbiologist who discovered the principles of vaccination - he also disproved spontaneous generation - but for the French, it's the principle that matters.
August in Paris means musical events, food and culture, watching the Tokyo Olympics, lots of sales, the return of some international tourists, the Eiffel Tower open again, and resting at the "Paris Plages" - Paris Beaches.

Opal Hush is mentioned in James Joyce's 1922 novel Ulysses. It's a drink - a quarter of a glass of claret topped with lemonade from a soda siphon. Opals are my favourite gemstone, and hush ... well, it's just a whisper!
