Georgian artists are exhibiting their works at Europe House in
Tbilisi, Georgia, under the title Writing With Color II.
The 19 works from 19 artists initiated by the Center of Contemporary
Art-Tbilisi is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of
Georgia.
The Georgian word for ‘writing with color’ is connected with semantics and
the existence of meaning, representing the restrictions of artistic expression
during the 70-year Soviet regime. In art, apart from social realism, no other
content or concept was accepted, although some artists attempted to practice
abstract art.
This exhibition, Writing in Color II, represents a continuation of the
project organized by the Center of Contemporary Art-Tbilisi in 2011. The aim of
this project is to present Georgian artists who practice conceptual painting
focused on ideas as a visible depiction of ‘recovery.’ The exhibition also
introduces lesser known Georgian artists in an event side-by-side with
established and well-known artists.
The artists include: Zura Aphkhazi, Thea
Gvetadze, Gigi Guledani, Galaktion Kintsurashvili, Gela Kuprashvili, Phridon
Lobzhanidze, Giorgi Machaidze, Keti Nadibaidze, Zaza Tsitskishvili, Nino
Sekhniashvili, Gio Sumbadze, Maia Sumbadze, Giorgi Ugulava, Niko Tsetskhaldze,
Levan Tchitchinadze, Shalva Khundadze, Mamuka Japharidze, Iliko Zautashvili,
