The village
of Omodos, 42 kilometres northwest of Limassol in Cyprus, is a more commercial
tourist town than many of the nearby villages. There are ample souvenir shops,
a bakery, tavernas, cafes, lace shops, a monastery, and a wine press.
It is a
winemaking region near the Cha-potami River, set in the hillside about 810
metres above sea level. The mountains surrounding the village of Omodos include
the Afames Mountain (1153 metres) and the Kremmos of Laona (1092 metres).
There are
also fruit trees, such as apples, plums, pears, peaches, and apricots, as well
as almond and olive trees.
