Bulgarian-born Paris artist Nicolai Panayotov is exhibiting his artworks at the Town Hall in the 6th arrondissement of Paris from 12 February to 2 March 2022.
Nicolai Panayotov (1956-) graduated in mural painting from the Academy of Arts in Sofia, and lectured in the Academy from 1983 to 1990, before moving to Paris 30 years ago.
Nicolai Panayotov’s abstract art combines fabrics, paints, and resins that produce elements that resemble the human body – but with imagination they could also be trees, fields, and anything that comes to mind. He says, ‘Abstraction gives complete freedom.’
He likes the feeling of unpredictability in abstract painting. He also explores works that are ‘more direct, free, somewhat marked by street art’ as well as working with fluorescent paints. He says, ‘Even in my latest works, it’s there, because that’s how I feel – very unpredictable. Over the years, the surprise that the start and the finished work provides has become more and more interesting. Not to mention that it’s never quite finished. Sometimes, I take things from ten years ago and see something that I can change.’
