The
Northern Hemisphere spring is generally marked on the astronomical March equinox,
between 19 and 21 March, depending on regions. In Europe the spring months are
March, April, and May. However, often meterologists say that spring commences
according to nature and the weather – that is, after seven consecutive days of
positive daytime temperatures in Europe and temperate zones.
In
many countries spring means spring cleaning. Everything is clean and new again.
Often this is celebrated by buying a new broom or besom, as they do in Tbilisi, where the Georgians still make natural besoms. The besom is made of
twigs tied to make a handle and brush. With use, they need constant repair or
replacement, and spring is always a good time to buy a new one.
