Givi Vashakidze (1937-2017) was a Georgian oil painter and graphic artist.
He studied at the Oil Painting Department of the Tbilisi Academy of Fine Arts from 1958-1964. He gained attention for his work in the metaphorical and symbolic, surrealistic and withdrawn representation of the world – mainly to reflect the conflict between a human being and the outside world.
In 1966 Givi Vashakidze created miniatures for 16th century poet Shota Rustaveli’s poem, The Knight in the Panther Skin, in celebration of the 800th anniversary of Shota Rustaveli.
In his later years, he held several exhibitions together with his son Georgi Vashakidze.
