The Institute de France (the France Institute) on the Left Bank of the Seine river in Paris is the ‘Protector of Arts, Literature, and Science’ – the oldest public library in France.

Cardinal Mazarin built the Institute de Frnace between 1662-1688 as a college. Since 1795 it has been the Institute de France.
