In
the sixth arrondissement of Paris on rue de l’Abbe-Gregoire near rue de
Vaugirard is a newly opened patisserie and tea room. Opened in late 2013,
Colorova – meaning multi-coloured – is true to its name.
The
area is known for its art galleries, and Colorova combines a number of
interests – cakes, food, and art. Primarily it is a bakery, but not the average
kind. The pastry chef bakes on the premise – the baking can be seen from the glass
window – and the results are artisanal elegant, delicate, and detailed sweets
with exquisite names. But it also eatery/cafe and offers a select choice for
breakfast and brunch of small meals (entree size – plat servi au debut du repas) – such as beetroot risotto, and melon
balls with prosciutto – with tea, coffee or wine.
The
large, airy white-walled patisserie is full of colour – in its artwork, seats,
tables, and accessories. The large artworks by David Ferreira, who exhibits at
Colorfield in the fourth arrondissement (on rue des Tournelles), provide the
multi-colours in Colorova. Ferreira is a former geometrician who transforms his
love for geometrical figures into creative colourful mixed-media canvasses. Other
works around the patisserie include multicultural textured chairs and tables,
as well as wallpaper and fittings.
