Prominent contemporary artist, Farhad Khalilov, is exhibiting his works at
the Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery in Tbilisi, Georgia. The exhibition
entitled Farhad Khalilov’s Solo Exhibition will be held from 1-22 March 2016.
Farhad Gurban oglu Khalilov (1946) is from Baku, Azerbaijan - bordering
Georgia. He studied art from 1961-1966 in Azerbaijan and continued his
education in Moscow, Russia. From 1987 he has held the position of Chair of the
Artists’ Union of Azerbaijan. In 2006 he was awarded an Order of Merit in
Azerbaijani art. Khalilov has had over 40 group exhibitions worldwide,
including in The Saatchi Gallery in London, Gallery of Berlin City Administration,
Central House of the Artists in Moscow, The State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow,
The State Museum Center of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and La Cite
Internationale des Arts in Paris.
In this exhibition there are 35 large canvasses. The earliest painting on
display is Portrait of an Old Man (1961), acrylic on paper, when he first
studied art.
Most paintings are from the 50-year period, 1966-2016, ‘From the Cycle’
series – such as (in order below) Recollection (2005),
Recollection (2006), the Unexpected Sight (2007), the Unexpected Sight
(2014-2015), and Patterns of the Earth (2016) - top photograph.
Other paintings include: In Goradil (1966), Flowering Almond (1976), Autumn
View (2014-2105), and All-Knowing Man Portrait (2013-2014).
The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the
Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of
Georgia, the National Art Museum of Azerbaijan, and the Georgian National
Museum.
