On Tuesday 2 August 2016 three white lion cubs
were born to Cleopatra at the Tbilisi Zoo in Georgia, 13 months after the 13 June floods in 2015 that killed many animals. Cleopatra, an African white lion,
was also the mother of Shumba who was killed during the flooding.
The Tbilisi Zoo’s
representative said that the newborn cubs are being accommodated in a closed
cage away from the public. ‘Their mother will most likely let them out in the
coming days, and everyone will have a chance to see them for the first time,’
said the zoo’s Facebook announcement.
The cubs are yet to be
named because the zookeepers are yet to determine the genders of the three
newborns.
