Hall Gallery at the Australian National University (ANU) is holding an
exhibition called ‘10 Years of Collecting Art for the ANU’ from 21 April to 28
May 2017.
Featured
are the works of two artists from Papua New Guinea: Simon Gende and Rex
Warrimou.
Simon Gende
(1969-) was born in Gere in the Gembogl district of Simbu province in Papua New
Guinea. His 2014 works of acrylic paint on cotton duck include: Adam Goodes Australian of the Year; Bill Gates
leader of the world; Twin towers; The US Army look for Osama bin Laden in the
sky, sea and on the land; The US Army find Osama bin Laden hiding in a house; and
The US Army bury Osama bin Laden at sea.

Rex Warrimou (1945-) was born in
Oro province in Papua New Guinea. His work of natural pigments on bark cloth is
called The brother and lizard brother at Lake Hijoro (2014).

MARTINA NICOLLS is an international
aid and development consultant, and the author of:- The Shortness of
Life: A Mongolian Lament (2015), Liberia’s Deadest Ends (2012), Bardot’s Comet
