As part of the 200th anniversary of Georgian-German relations in
Georgia, the National Gallery in Tbilisi presents the works of Max Tilke in the
exhibition "Germans in Georgia - Art, Architecture, Science" from
12-30 April 2017.
Max Tilke (1869-1942) was an artist, researcher, and ethnographer, famous
for his drawings of ethnic costume of the Caucasus region and worldwide. He
worked in the Caucasus region in 1912-1913.
The collection in the exhibition shows some of the gallery's 83 Tilke watercolour paintings of the
ethnic clothes and costumes worn at the time.
