International Children’s Book Day is celebrated on 2 April each year. It is organised by
the International Board on Books for
Young People that was founded in the early 1950’s in Zurich,
Switzerland.
It’s the time to
remind children and parents to take time to read, celebrate literacy, and
discover children’s books that are not well known. The date for International Children’s Book Day was chosen
to coincide with the birth date of Hans Christian Andersen. Andersen was
the writer of well-known children’s stories such as The Little Mermaid and The
Ugly Duckling.
