World
Vegetarian Day is observed around the world
on October 1 each year. The North American Vegetarian Society established the
day as a celebratory event in 1977, which the International Vegetarian Union
endorsed in 1978.
World Vegetarian Day aims
to “promote the joy, compassion and life-enhancing possibilities of
vegetarianism.’’ It brings awareness to the ethical, environmental, health, and
humanitarian benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle.
