The Canberra Museum and Gallery is
holding the exhibition, Crossing Threads: 50 Years of Canberra Spinners and
Weavers, from 28 October 2017 to 18 March 2018.
The Canberra Spinners and Weavers
(CSW) was established on 6 August 1966. A meeting of interested people and
practitioners gathered on that day – more than expected – to create a hub of
textile artists. The first CSW Annual General Meeting was held on 8 July 1967
with 32 members and $18.62 in the bank.
The exhibition represents a range of
textile creations of early and current members of CSW across the 50 years of
the organisation. On display are ‘rugs and wall hangings, shawls and samplers,
and placemats and ponchos’ from many private and public collections.
