In Kutaisi, Georgia, the Bagrati Cathedral, is a vision in turquoise at the top
of Uk’imerioni Hill. The 11th century cathedral, built in the reign of King
Babrat III, was renovated in 2012.
Bagrati Cathedral was included as a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site in 1994.
However, the modern additions to the renovations (such as the roofing material and an alcove - shown on the left hand side of the photograph) were said to be against ‘the integrity and authenticity of the site.’
It is used on a limited basis for worship services, but attracts pilgrims and
tourists.
