The Centre for
Shakespeare Studies at the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU)
in Georgia presented Shakespeare450 Collected Papers of the International
Conference on Monday, November 16. The TSU, in conjunction with the Rustaveli
State Drama Theatre, hosted the four-day Shakespeare450 International
Conference in May 2014.
The Centre for
Shakespeare Studies is part of the Faculty of Humanities at TSU. The
interdisciplinary conference explored Shakespeare’s influence and inspiration
in art, music, and other works of literature (by authors such as Aldous Huxley,
William Faulkner, Tom Stoppard, and Virginia Woolf). Participants attended from
a range of disciplines, such as English, drama, education, music, modern
languages, classics, history, art, film, and medicine. Other topics included
research, staging and filming, teaching Shakespeare, challenges of
translations, and Shakespeare in Georgia.
The conference
celebrated 450 years since British playwright William Shakespeare’s birth in 1564. April 2016
marks the 400th year of Shakespeare’s death in 1616. The Centre for Shakespeare Studies at TSU will soon be
announcing their conference theme for 2016.
