The Dimitri
Shevardnadze National Gallery (The National Gallery) of Georgia on Rustaveli
Street in Tbilisi maintains a permanent collection of local artist, Niko
Pirosmani, but renewed the collection in 2012 to commemorate 150 years since
his birth.
Interest and special
requests from the public led to the renewed collection called ‘Pirosmani 150.’
Niko Pirosmanashvili (1862-1918) is considered an artist of international
reputation, with his works in galleries and museums in Ukraine, Poland, Russia,
Hungary, Lithuania, Belarus, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands,
the United Kingdom, Spain, and Turkey. On display in the collection held in
Tbilisi are 130 of his most noted works of art.

a Moonlit Night (1914) – oil on cardboard (100x80), Actress Margarita (no date)
– oil on oilcloth (117x94), Fisherman (no date) – oil on oilcloth (111x90), Tatar Camel Driver (no date) –
oil on cardboard (100x99), and Yellow Lion Sejant (no date) – oil on cardboard
(99x80).
