The Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery of the Georgian National Museum
in Tbilisi, Georgia, is holding the Anniversary Exhibition of Georgi
Alexi-Meskhishvili from 3-23 November 2016.
The exhibition showcases Alexi-Meskhishvili’s artworks covering 50 years.
He graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts in 1967, and from 1975 he
was the chief designer for both the Rustaveli Drama Theatre and the National
Opera in Tbilisi. Alexi-Meskhishvili moved to America in 1996 to become the
professor of Stage Design at Dartmouth College to 2015.
In addition to designing sets and costumes for performances around the world – Bolshoi Theatre, The Metropolitan Opera, Venice’s La Fenice, and the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington DC, he is also a recognized artist, particularly of paintings and collages.
