British artist, Karen Knorr, exhibited her photographic works at the 2017
Kolga Tbilisi Photo event at the Zurab Tsereteli Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in
Tbilisi from 10-17 May 2017. The Kolga Tbilisi Photo is an annual photography
competition and event (5-17 May).
The group exhibition was called ‘Fauna – Wild Beasts, Sheep &
Crocodiles.’ The incredible kingdom of animals – from historic to futuristic
was created by Tina Schelhorn. Knorr’s display was called India Song.
Karen Knorr, born in Germany, raised in Puerto Rico, studied in France and
England. She has exhibited
her works at Tate Britain, Tate Modern, The University of Westminster,
Goldsmiths, Harvard and The Art Institute of Chicago, and other international
galleries. She is currently Professor of Photography at the University for the
Creative Arts in Farnham, Surrey, England.
Knorr is noted for her ironic and
humorous photographs on politics, British conservative values, and
architectural interiors. She uses different visual and textual strategies to
explore her chosen subject matter that ranges from the family and lifestyle to
animal and their representation in the museum context.
Since her journey to Rajasthan,
India in 2008, Karen Knorr’s work continues to explore Rajput and Mughal
cultural heritage and its relationship to questions of feminine subjectivity
and animality. Her exhibition in the 2017 Kolga Photo, India Song, is a series
of carefully crafted photographs that explore the past and its relation to
India’s contemporary heritage sites across Rajasthan.
