The National Zoo
and Aquarium in Canberra, Australia, has a new giraffe named Humbekhali. She is
affectionately called Hummer.
Giraffes usually
sleep for only ten minutes at a time, and for only two hours in a 24-hour
period. The young giraffe Hummer – a Giraffa
camelopardalis – was relocated to the zoo in January 2015 so she is still
getting used to her new surroundings.
The luxurious
Jamala Wildlife Lodge on the grounds of the National Zoo and Aquarium has six
Giraffe Treehouses with views of the adjacent giraffe enclosure. Guests who
stay overnight can feed Hummer from their balcony.
