Patrick the wombat
will be 30 years old on Sunday August 30, 2015. He is the oldest, biggest
bare-nosed wombat in the world, according to The Canberra Times (August 25,
2015). Readers are welcome to attend his birthday party.
Wombats are herbivorous
marsupials, native to Australia. The collective noun for wombats is a wisdom of
wombats.
Patrick – or Paddy as
he is mostly called – lives in the Ballarat Wildlife Park in the Australian
state of Victoria. He was rescued on the side of the road in 1986 and has
remained in the Wildlife Park ever since.
He owes his longevity
to good care and being pampered. However he never had a female partner, so he
is now advertising on Tinder and Facebook (he has over 30,000 followers). His
female friend must like late nights, sleeping during the day, digging in the
dirt, and eating carrots. At 30, Patrick is good looking, popular, bare-nosed
(as opposed to hairy-nosed wombats), loves children, and weighs 36 kilograms (79
pounds).
