BBC Russia reported an
increase in Russsian tourists to Georgia – breaking previous records (Georgia
Toda, August 24, 2015).
Russian visitors to
Georgia reached nearly half a million this year – an increase of 12% over the
past 12 months. The National Administration of Tourism in Georgia said Russia
ranks fourth in the number of visitors to Georgia, after Turkey, Azerbaijan,
and Armenia (all neighbouring countries).
Reasons for the
increase in Russian tourist numbers include the fall of the Russian ruble, visa
free travel from Russia to Georgia, and the increase in airlines operating in
Georgia – as well as an interest in what Georgia has to offer: wine tourism, food tourism, the
Black Sea coast, the mountains, events, conferences, and museums - and friendly people.
